Interesting RISC OS links
for you to visit.

Welcome to the computing section.

Regular visitors will realise that this area of the site has shrunk! With too many projects on the go and not enough hours in the day, parts of the site have been removed. It may be temporary, or it may be permanent. However with less to update it will give me time to concentrate on the rest of the site and get some more programming done (well that's the theory!). I would like to explore Linux on Iyonix further, but have heard no news about its development for ages.

I am currently considering the future of the computing pages. With Iyonix Ltd pulling out of the market, there is now virtually no chance of new RISC OS native hardware. Some are happy to go down the emulation route, but I have to admit that I am not. If my Iyonix packs up then I will move to a new platform. What is the point of running an OS on top of another OS? It means that RISC OS just becomes an expensive toy. I don't use Windows or a Mac, and don't want the hassle of running either just to use RISC OS.

Some people in the RO market have gloated over the departure of Iyonix Ltd, but I wonder just how long RISC OS 6 will last. RO 5 may have been another cul-de-sac, but then so is emulation!
